>> it's certainly a concern of the president's, and also secretary of state john kerry. we are hearing now that the secretary of state will be coming back here on saturday to speak privately with prime minister netanyahu about the peace process, trying to figure out what it is that can be done to get the peace process started again between the israelis and the palestinians. you know it's been stalled for many years now. a lot of concern that it is going to die. but we are going to see the president coming here first talking to the prime minister, and then tomorrow he'll be headed over to the west bank to speak with president mahmoud abbas, who is going to be talking, of course, about the peace process. a lot of concern that nothing will come out of it. zoraida? >> all right, sara sidner, live in jerusalem for us. >> also developing in the region this morning a lot of finger pointing in syria. the assad regime and rebel forces both accusing one another of using chemical weapons. syrian state media yesterday claiming that opposition forces launched a chemical attack in ale

kerry will remain at least a little bit trying to maybe get this israeli/palestinian peace process off the ground. >> jump-start it. >> he has some political issues he has to deal with, major issues here. how much of a subject of importance will this be for the president? >> look, i think this has been very good for the president because there were lots of people in the american jewish community, particularly during this last election, who saw benjamin netanyahu cozying up to mitt romney, who were very skeptical about the president and israel. i think this trip as john king was saying earlier makes it very clear particularly when the president on the question of iran said all options are on the table, period, the president made it very clear as he said in his speech today, you are not alone. so i think domestically, politically, this trip is only good for the president. it makes him be seen as a leader. next to benjamin netanyahu these two men need each other in many ways right now and i think that is why you see this relationship blossoming. >> richard haas do you think anything is go

a second ago, jess, we saw president obama greeting secretary of state john kerry on the tarmac there. the secretary of state arrived in the region before the president. he will be in the region again just after the president leaves. the united states appears to be sending the message that the preside president's trip is just part of the overall goal here. >> reporter: right. so, one of the mixed messages we're getting around this trip is the white house has talked down expectations. we should not expect anything to come of this trip. this is largely not just this trip meaning ramallah, the west bank today, but the overall trip to the middle east is really making good to israel and touching base with the palestinians. but despite the low expectation s, there is still a colonel of hope. the focus will be not so much on the palestinian end, but the israeli end, to see what it would take to bring israelis to the table. kerry will come back and have dinner with a member of the israeli cabinet to see where the israeli comfort level would be and what it would involve for israel to sit down
